SAUCY! (SAY IT WITH SOME PIZAZZ.)
I believe that design — and life, for that matter, — should have some sauce. For example, this web site is loaded with it! Synonyms for sauce include: adventurous, appealing, audacious, ballsy, bold, brazen, cheeky, forward, fresh, intelligent, intense, penetrating, provocative, sassy, sharp, smart, spicy, stimulating, zesty, etc.… Sauce gives much needed color to design (and life). Therefore, I add it whenever possible.
Of course, it must be used wisely. Knowing the cuisine, palate and environment is critical. A warm Kahlúa chocolate sauce on top of delicate profiteroles is a perfect choice for a bunch of PMS-crazed women; however, replace it with plain honey and there might be some bloodshed. I encourage sauce usage, but it must be appropriate.
SO WHY WAN-KER?
That’s easy to explain. Wan-ker is what you get when a Wang (David Wang, my husband) meets a Hooker (me, Adrienne Hooker). The name happened by accident, really. I didn’t want to become a Wang when we married — and I thought anything would be better than Hooker — so I tried to combine our surnames. I ended up with a punch line for our name joke. It also makes a memorable name and a great ice-breaker, so let’s consider the ice broken.
